Located amid the hills of the Tanat Valley, Pennant Melangell is a liminal place
where people have come to feel the touch of the spirit in times before
and since Christ.
The mixed media piece, made for the Open Competition, "In a Country Churchyard," with the Museum of Modern Art, Machynlleth, where it was exhibited and subsequently sold, includes the following poem written by the artist:-
Silent voices,
threaded in the wind,
whispered in stone,
sing strings
through time.
Embrace of yews,
deep-night green,
redolent with branchy years
guard echoes of souls gone,
gone on . . .
The words 'animae in paradisum', 'amser, diamseredd' and 'atseiniau,
seiniau' and ghostly forms of leaping hares, are scattered throughout
the piece.
