Explorations of inkjet printing and Photoshop, begun during my Masters studies  at university, have allowed my work to develop into a fusion not just of paint and stitch but of print as well, creating a marriage between the ancient arts of painting and stitching with modern computer technologies.

With stitch as a vital component in my images, I believe that, as brushwork is unique to the individual painter, so the laying down of thread and mark-making through hand stitch is unique to each practitioner, the execution of the stitch analogous to the stroke of brush or mark of pencil or pen.

Still drawn to the liminal places, wind-swept beach and sheep dotted hill, aesthetic concerns within my practice revolve around the emotive power of colour and expressive line,  pathways to the ineffable sought through the tactile sensitivity of fabric and thread.

Acting on an awareness of the close relationship between music and art, a cadence in G Minor for voice and double bass , composed and in part performed by the artist, has been arranged in my "embroidered sound" and recorded to accompany my installation, "The Invitation".

Fostering a spirit of contemplation, a meditation on life, art and the spirit, my work revolves predominantly around the rich vein of the abstract.   However, the drama of humanity, always a deep concern for the artist, once again plays a central role within the aims and consciousness of the artwork, the human figure and physiognomy taking their place within the poetics of form to speak of issues of time and history, the hopes and dreams of so many lives lived, the paths and urgings of the soul.
