The Invitation Contact
And a Sword Shall Pierce Your Heart Also
Perhaps
even more than its companion piece, "For They Shall be Comforted", this
image, further reworked in Photoshop and inkjet printed, spoke to me of
the grief and horror of war, with its textures like bandages or scarred
battle-grounds giving rise to concomitant feelings of grief at the loss of a son
or daughter in a theatre of war.
It was a short step to join
these thoughts with the searing pain of the Virgin Mary, standing at
the foot of the Cross of her crucified Son; but that very Son rose to
be the Redeemer for all people, so, although the piece seeks to express
and empathise with extremes of grief and pain, yet, in the form of
Mary's Son, it also holds out the hope of love and eventual healing for
all mankind's ills.
